About Northern Trails Canada

Pioneers in Canadian Wilderness Adventures

Our Story

Northern Trails Canada was born from a shared passion for the untamed beauty of the Canadian wilderness. Founded in 1985 by Marie and Robert Thomson, two dedicated conservationists and outdoor enthusiasts, our company began as a humble family operation offering weekend camping excursions in Banff National Park. What started with a small group of friends exploring hidden alpine lakes has grown into one of Canada's most respected wilderness tourism companies.

The Thomsons' vision was simple yet profound: to share the transformative power of Canada's natural heritage with travelers from around the world while maintaining the highest standards of environmental stewardship. After years of guiding backcountry expeditions and building relationships with Indigenous communities across Canada, they established Northern Trails as a company that would bridge the gap between authentic wilderness experiences and responsible tourism practices.

Today, nearly four decades later, we continue to honor their legacy by offering unparalleled access to Canada's most spectacular destinations, from the Arctic tundra to the coastal rainforests of British Columbia. Our commitment to small group experiences, expert local guides, and sustainable tourism has earned us recognition from Tourism Canada and made us the preferred choice for discerning travelers seeking genuine Canadian adventures.
